Shaanti’s Presents The Female Takeover Club Sounds

In the notoriously male-dominated world of DJs, Shaanti host an exciting club-night of new selectors, to international success stories and local underground legends ending Shaanti’s Female Takeover with a bang!

Celebrating 31 years as a globetrotting turntablist & BBC Radio presenter, DJ Ritu produces and presents A World in London, author of The Rough Guide to Music Series and promoter of Club Kali and Kuch Kuch, the longest running Bollywood event in London. Having been a key figure in the British music scene, this force to be reckoned as one of the best Bollywood-Bhangra female DJs in the world.

A woman at the top of her game is the inimitable Sharnita K Athwal (Shaanti) is a DJ, producer and curator of The Female Takeover Festival. She started DJ’ing in 2009 on digital radio shows in Germany, UK and India and has played for the Carl Cox and MC Magika – Founder of the Drum and Bass Awards. Having first released her remix on Swami’s EP ‘Do It Again’, she continues to present the UKs biggest events Brunch’in and Hip Hop, The UK Garage Colour Powder Festival and The Holi Rave Festival.

Though female DJs don’t always get their due in a patriarchal industry, there’s no shortage of women who can hold their own behind the turntables. London based DJ Kookie holds down regular residencies at the famous Rum Kitchen and The BBC Asian Network, so it’s no surprise that her name is synonymous with credibility.
