Shaanti’s Female Takeover presents Breakthrough Live

Shaanti’s Female Takeover presents Breakthrough Live featuring three of the most exciting artists flying the flag for UK music. As structural inequality within our industry casts an oppressive shadow over female visibility in live music, here we present the hottest Breakthrough live acts of 2018.

Sabiyha, a London based singer-songwriter with the ability to captivate and silence an audience with her compelling vocals and powerful songs. Whilst her sound resonates with the past, as she pulls on her blues, jazz and folk influences, she brings it forward to the present with her unique, contemporary edge and versatility. Following her debut single release, Sabiyha will be performing songs from her new EP, Hollow Bones.

Gnarly, a London based female Producer and DJ creating genre-bending future beats drawing influences from jazz, funk, hip hop, r’n’b and neo-soul, A multi instrumentalist, she has attracted a lot of interest on Instagram with her live finger drumming videos, reaching viewers all over the world. Playing live for the past few years at events and venues such as Relentless HQ, Secret Walls, and the UK Beatbox Championships get ready to captivated by her electronic performance.

Inspired by Old Grey Whistle tests and Woodstock festivals, Birmingham based Layla Tutt is a skilful songstress, fashioning tunes to groove to, tunes to move you. A lover of assonance and dissonance, she is thrilled by rhyme and rhythm. With her distinctive percussive ‘strum and bass’ style; ferocious, driving guitar strings and haunting, ethereal vocals, she’ll pluck and pull at the heartstrings, spark up the spirit and soothe your soul. Her lines will linger and melodies will remain on the tips of your tongues. Mesmerizing puts it mildly – she’s just so darn musical.

Breakthrough Live impressive platform strides towards the kind of diversity that should be uniform on all event line-ups, new artists are presented for the first time at Southbank.
