Hip Hop Dinner, Every Bi-Monthly at Level Digbeth Birmingham

Produced in mind for the evening crowd, Hip Hop Diner is the UKs biggest evening celebration of hip-hop culture through food. Created out of demand, for those who cant make it to our daytime Brunch’in parties this bi-monthly experience has now officially landed!

Although we’re far removed from the streets of Compton, we can’t seem to get enough of hip-hop culture and have taken our infatuation from the speakers to the street – food kitchen on Saturday 17 February at Level Digbeth.

Hip-hop and food have an untied history. Goodie Mob made a Southern classic called Soul Food; Biggie waxed poetic about his meal of T-bone steak, cheese eggs and Welch’s grape; and Rick Ross has kicked rhymes about every crustacean dish in the sea. Even so, it’s been unlikely to hear rap music played in a club context – at least until now as Hip Hop Dinner makes hip-hop part of their dining experiences.

With a golden-era hip-hop soundtrack of New Skool and Old Skool, and there are both East and West Coast variations coming out of our speakers and a custom loop of throwback videos on television, Hip Hop Diner serves up nostalgia by the pint.

The theme defines the menu as the UKs best street traders present NYC-inspired comfort food by experimental street food organisers Taste and Liquor, Bottomless Sexy Juice (between 8pm -9pm), generous booths and flexible table arrangements for large groups are designed to encourage groups to sit back and enjoy the party.

This evening session is less formal street food spot with a taste for nostalgia and old-school beats. However our night immediately turned heads with a soundtrack that’s heavy on 2000s artists like Clipse and the Diplomats, plus Polaroids of rappers and hip-hop personalities like Joey Bada$$ and the Kid Mero and more.

Hip Hop Diner, Saturday 3 February, then every (bi-monthy) from 8pm, at Level Digbeth, a converted cash and carry, with tickets starting at £10. For more information and ticket details take a look here. www.shaanti.co.uk
